FOCCUS (Facilitating Open Couple Communication, Understanding & Study) is a premarital inventory designed for helping engaged couples to explore pertinent issues related to the impending marriage. It was developed in 1985 by the Family Life Office of the Archdiocese of Omaha and is considered to be one of most popular and marriage preparation. In the US, around thousands of couples take FOCCUS every year. It is used by about 2/3 of the Roman Catholic dioceses in the country.

There are four advantages in using FOCCUS
  • FOCCUS reflects the values and ideals of a sacramental as taught by the Roman Catholic Church.
  • A couple can learn about the strengths and areas for growth in their relationship within a short period of time.
  • The Questionnaire covers 16 areas in marriage:

Format:
Each partner answers the FOCCUS questionnaire which comprises 156-189 statement.
After the answers are compared and analysed, the couple needs to attend two or three feedback sessions provide by a facilitator who will then use the answers to discuss with them issues relating to their marriage.

Priests, counsellors and voluntary couple who have been trained to adminster FOCCUS.

The service will be provided at a fee of $1,800 per couple.
